SAMS END OF TERM PARTY

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Don’t worry.. I am still here..

If you’ve been wondering where I have been & what I have been upto & how come there has been no event lately… this is here to put you at rest.. But obviously not on the party day.. Cause then there is no time to rest as you gotta be dancing the night away..

Once again.. my SAMS party is up for the one last time this term. The music theme this time is a little different with more preference to Bhangra and RnB. I have been playing loads of Bollywood all this time but this time I’m gonna fuse some authentic Bhangra with popular RnB. A booty shaking night is what I call it.. lol. and that’s what it’s going to be.. Shake your booty mama is all I gotta say..

This time i am also doing something new with SAMs.. We have given a few members of SAMS namely Waqas and Wali to take the lead in organising and promoting this event. The purpose being..
1 – They needed to do an assignment as part of their management studies for which they needed to organise and execute an event.. So why not a SAMS party under my supervision..
2 – We get some added help and a new team to train incase these guys decide to run this society next year with all the other help available from our members…

In this good will we got them on board to take the lead in designing the posters, publishing and advertising the event.. They will also be taking care of different responsibilities on the actual event.

I haven’t slept well for the last two days due to an overload of assignments and work as it is end of term and tonite I won’t be sleeping at all.. So if you find me knackered and out of my head tomorrow.. please keep your peace and bear with me.. The music is eventually going to wake me up and get you grooving all over too…

DJ Munks in the house all evening with one of the best Asian parties in South Wales post doing events like the Cardiff Asian Ball and the Desi Jam with artists like Dr. Zeus, RAghav, RDB, DJ H & DJ Fricktion. I’ll see to it you dont miss them… !!!

Baa Bar [Glamorgan Student Union] 8:30 onwards… Come prepared for party games with lots of chocolates and gifts

See you all there… for any queries post a comment in or buzz me on 07726 460698…

P.S. – I will also be playing an After party at Tom’s Bar across the street from 1am till whenever… That’s going to be all electronica and house.. So cmmon in then… 2 parties in one night.. what are you thinking about.. !!!

FIRST WEEKEND…WALK TO TESCO’S

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

This blog has been lying in my saved articles for quite long now.. I finally decided to put it out in the open from the hiding dungeons of my save box…

Well the 1st weekend when I arrived to UK in September 06 was quite a “WALK” .. lol.. {It’s usually adjectives used to describe… but a noun suits fine herre.. }
I, jimmy & ash were the first few to get together on the Glam campus in Trefforest.. & we wanted to explore a bit of Trefforest & at the same time do loads of shopping. We had just settled down in our respective rooms & our wardrobes & kitchens felt empty. So, what do we do..?? Simple, get to Tesco’s.. we dint really know wat Tesco’s was then except for it’s a super dooper market n about a couple of miles away.. so with all the time in the world, we decided to take a walk down the new roads of Trefforest.

With no maps or any sense of direction we got on the road starting from the Uni campus & walking the way it “seemed” to be. & guess what.. it was correct.. but we walked for a couple of hours.. lol.. It was fun !!! We stopped here & there.. took loads of pics of our new scenic surroundings.. & even asked a couple of ppl the way.. lol.. ;) It was fun all around.. Even passed a small little town on the way.. dont remember what it is called.. & then we bumped into these lovely horseees in an enclosed area.. & I love horses.. always did.. just could not just pass them away.. We spent some time with them.. Had a quick chat in the “grassy” language. Loved them… quite a couple the stallions were..

Next stop was the massive Tesco’s.. I had no idea what to expect for this.. It is just massive.. Too huge.. Took us like a couple of hours to navigate through it.. Shopped for like £40 in the very first week. So much so, that in between the 3 of us we had to call for a cab to ferry us back to the uni. But it was all worth it.. A day well spent.. Saw the unpassed area’s of our Uni, then Trefforest & figured out the way to Tesco’s on our own and then shopped out hearts out.. But after all this, dont ask us to cook or make anything as yet. So we head to our favourite place.. The Gallery - The best place forr all students on campus to fill their every empty tummies. I love the food their.. Well I dont remember when did I eat their last.. I guess it was just that first month I’d say.. lol.. mannn it’s been long.. I think I should head back there sometime soon..

Check out the photos down here from our lil expedition trip.. You even get to see quite a bit of our Glamorgan campus.. particularly of interest to all my dear friends in India & around…
& yes… Long live TESCO’s… !!!! haha…

HOLI BLAST !!!

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Continuing from where I last left about our special HOLI PARTY organised by SAMS at the University of Glamorgan….

The party started rolling as people kept coming in.. We had people from India, Pakistan, Africa, Poland, France, Cuba, Germany, USA, Chez Republic, Sri lanka, Dubai, China & just about everywhere & everyone has colour on their face.. lol.. Everyone looked the same for a bit.. haha..

I even kept playing traditional holi songs inbetween & announced a bit about the festival itself for those who had no idea about it. But everyone got together on the floor as the Asians showed to all how to move to traditional Holi tunes. Mann it was fun to see them all move all together..

The evening just kept getting brighter with all th colours around & all the excitement on the dance floor. There was a time when we had no one sitting down. This party saw nearly around 100 people in making it the biggest & best party soo far.. Quite good for our small venue isn’t it.. ;)

And then came the surprise for the day.. It was one of our awsome members Vidyaah’s bday.. Woohoo. !!! HAPPY BDAY once again to you.. Her friends had arranged for cake n cadles for her.. While everyone gathered around to sing for her.. But all this doesn’t come free to Vidyaah.. We later made her sing as well.. haha.. She is a fabulous singer.. n sang San Sanan San from Asoka .. I broke it down n followed it up with a house mix of the same song.. the crowd couldn’t stop moving..

To top it all, DJ Imran did a quick set of some butt rocking Bhangra along with a few new ones from DJ H’s new album who was coming over next.. I love it when Imran gets playing at one of our parties.. that’s the only time I get to get off & shake my booty as well.. lol..

Rest, well we dint get much footage or stills of after that.. Basically what happened was that we opened the side fire exit with buckets of water outside along with bags of water balloons for the after party… a total & complete Holi celebration in the true sense. How can you have Holi without colours, Water & water balloons.. ?? Even if it is cold & freezing outside.. doesn’t really matter at a Holi party.. haha.. I slowly turned the music down & the party inside the venue came to an end while the party was just starting outside… Everyone waited outside with colours & water balloons for everyone to come out & do a full & proper celebrartion.. It was tough for sometime to get the drunks controlled & out but you see.. our SAMS members are quite supportive & helpful.. Even in that drunk condition they would help us keep things under control & not going out of hand anywhere.. Thank you guys for being soo understanding.. Cheers to you all..

Its not only difficult but almost impossible to find such an atmosphere for such a festival in a country as diverse as UK. But WE achieved what we set out to get.. New frineds & cultural integration…. And it feels soo happy & satisfying after having such an evening.. cause you know your purpose & effort has been rewarded…

Thank you to the main organiser Ivan for this one.. He got all the things that you saw in there.. be it decorations, colours or sweets.. Also a big high 5 going to Imran for coming down once agiain & playing some awsome Bhangra for us.. and lastly .. a big big big thanks to all those who came down.. You are the ones who we organised this for n its you who made this a fun filled successful night for all of us..

Leave your comments about the party down here.. Your opinion is valuable to me.. Also, the next & probably the last SAMS party is gonna be happening on the 30th march at the Baa Bar.. If you’ve been missing all the action at our parties with me DJ Munks , then this is probably your last chance to make up for all the time to lost..

Cheers & see you all on 30th…

!!!! Munks is Playing at ISF LEICESTER..woohhooo !!!!

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Yet another add up to my events list.. But this is one is quite different from what I usually do… [isn't that always exciting.. ]

I am now playing at the ISF [International Students Festival] 2007 to be held in Leicester from 16 to 18 March.

A weekend full of activities with Seminars, Exhibitions, Workshops, Cultural shows, Fashion shows, Career fair & even an International Students Ball..

Check out the flyer for full details..

Our University of Glamorgan is a participating institution of the ISF. Hence the entry for all Glamorgan students is completely free... and we even get a free bus to take us there & get us back after 3 days of massive fun…

It’s the 2nd year of this massive International event. With students from almost every country, this fest is not just educational but even cultural in every sense. With high profile speakers like the Mayor of Leicester, Vice chancellors & even a few members of the Parliament.

This event doesn’t just sounds big,,, IT IS!!!

Now I have been invited to DJ for the after party on Saturday night. This is basically going to be the wrap up party as there will be no events after this except for the city tours on Sunday. Leicester is known for it crazy vibrant  life style..

The Sunday tours is something I am really looking forward to..

But more than anything else what I am really looking forward to is my 4 hour set on Saturday night… This is going to be after the Fashion Show & cultural events from 11-3am. I am the DJ for a crowd of around 500 to 1000 students.. haha.. sounds like a party doesn’t it.. !!!

But the biggest attraction is going to be the variation in my music set. I am going to play almost everything from Bollywood, Hip-Hop, Bhangra, RnB, House, Trance, World Music etc. and I am going to be mixing it live with some Tabla playing.. Pphhheewwwww… you might just find  me sweating.. but with a massive smile on my face.. Cause this is what I really love doing.. And I will see to it that everyone in the audience enjoys it as much as well & they be sweating to with not being able to shake their booty…

So what are you doing this weekend.. ???

–HOLI PARTY VIDEOS–

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Changing trends here.. This time I decided to put the videos before the photos since this is SAMS first party where we actually have such an extensive video and most importantly this party is where we can proudly say that we completely achieved what we have been trying to all this while..

CULTURAL INTEGRATION ladies n gentlemen.. n we got it… loud n clear.. Brown, black, white.. well simply all the possible colours of skin i can think of were there in unison to celebrate a festival with full glam @ Glamorgan.. [woohoo that rhymes.. ] lol…

Our usual venue Baa bar dint look the same with all the decorations we arranged. Our kind lady members Rosina, Romana, Prathana, Hiruni & Rekha did quite a job on the walls with balloons & different colored decorations. But the most amazing was the Rangoli done at the entrance without rangoli powder but rather with chalk. Excellent job girls. Thank you for all your help. Ashwin & Ivan did the balloons & rendered all the help for the decorations while I setup the sound & lights on the stage. It was going to be a big night with loads of people coming in had to see that everything was in order.

HOLI PARTY CLIP 1 HOLI PARTY CLIP 2 HOLI PARTY CLIP 3 HOLI PARTY CLIP 4

I had arranged for free entry for all so that everyone & anyone could come in & see how we celebrate this massive Indian festival. We had arranged for face colors, Indian sweets, decorations and even water balloons.. haha.. that was the worst n the best part of the evening.. Worst for me & my team to take care of the drunks from breaking everything inside the venue and best part for all of us.. cause it simply was loads of fun.. Really loved it.. hehe..

After the decorations were done, Ivan got in to get the waterballoons ready while Ashwin setup the traditional thali with colors for tikka, a candle & our lovely Indian sweets specially got made from Cardiff for the occasion. Everyone who came in was welcomed with a little colour on their cheeks and forehead and the sweets to start if all off well… On the music front I had lots of traditional Indian music mixed with RnB & other popular forms of music. I had it flowing all through the night.. Even put in some traditional Indian Holi songs inbetween here and there… But coming up next was our dear DJ Imran from Cardiff who was going to do a small smashing set for us loaded with some authentic Bhangra beats. That’s what he is really good at & we really appreciate him for that.. A great guy.. Cheers to you buddy..

…A “BALL” OF A TIME… !!

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Me, Dr. Zeus and Imran
<—-

24th Feb ’07 will remain to be the most memorable day in my music and events career for a while..  CARDIFF ASIAN BALL 2007 with RAGHAV, DR. ZEUS, RDB and DJ FRICKTION of DefJamUK and many more… A night packed with some of the best performers in the current crop of Asian Music scene.. And then you have Imran with Vibrasians.com who get these performances to every sector of Asian audience in South Wales.. Imran says he really understands the potential in me & in just about less than a months time of knowing me, put me up on the stage for the biggest Asian event in the whole of UK.. the mega CARDIFF ASIAN BALL.. It was lot of trust & I had to prove that I am worth it.. Time of truce and

Gonna just talk about how the event was in general & then a little about all that I did & the ways to which I contributed to this GiAnT of an event..

Well the event was due to start at 7pm. 7-10 was the dinner and 10-2 was the real party.. the performances with all our celebs. I was to get there at 3 and help Imran with all the setup but I had to also make a small slideshow & introduction demo for the screen and I came to know about just the day before. Usually making something like this take to around a few days & I had to do it in just few hours. I had worked on it through the night before & the next morning. Using software like Final Cut Pro & Live Type I got a 20 minute demo ready which looked pretty good for what was done in a few hours. But next day the DVD wouldn’t burn which sucked n it felt like all the work is gonna go to waste. But then after lot of running around I finally got a VCD done.

I reached the Venue around 6 with all last minute touches being done. The place simply looked gorgeous..!!! So ethnic and colourful.. I got down to setting  up the massive screen above the stage. But this time the player would not except the VCD. phhheewww.. God.. these last minute crunches just drive me nuts.. & they somehow always happen. Well those are your testing times.. After a couple of hours struggling & calling number of people around to get me a VCD player, finally got relief when the damn thing played and trust me… that was a real big relief. By then the crowd had started coming in & received to a lovely champagne reception. The entrance foyer was setup with a mehndi artist, photographer, clairvoyant & a casino.          Me with Raghav ——>

At 7 sharp I took complete control of the stage as planned. Started with some soft Bollywood tunes and Dinner lounge music. I also checked all the equipment & kept the mics handy. The brill part was still to come in. Imran brought in another surprise for me… I had to now also host the evening… haha.. Ain’t that awwsome… Wasn’t that big a surprise as I used to be more of a compare & host back home than a DJ… Have done loads of college and university programs as a host & its always been fun. But the real shocker for the evening comes in later… hold on for it..

The snacks & dinner started shortly around 8:30. Everything bang on schedule.. love Imran’s planning and execution. Well cant say much about the food but from where I was standing on the stage behind the console.. it all looked really good & definitely smelled fantastic.. With all the running around to get the screen working, I couldn’t get anything to eat.. :( The buffet started and I decided to let DJ Harry Singh to take the stage to play some bollywood to get the crowd set for all that was coming up. The hall was almost full now. I was making continuous announcements about the events lined up for the evening and I could see the bubbling excitement ready to jump out on the dancefloor. While Harry was on, I was standing next to him & I just turned around to find Dr. Zeus standing behind me.. I was out of words for a sec.. dint expect him to be right there.. Had a small chat with him and escorted him to the green room. Sat down and had a quick word with him. What a fun guy he is & had totally no airs about him. In just about 5 mins he got everything out of me about me. Such a great guy.. but here came the shocker i was talking about earlier.. He says, “I just heard you compare out there on the stage. You talk pretty good.. I want you to MC for me today..”

My eyes popped, jaw dropped .. lost the connection between my tongue n my head.. I was just like awww… … He gave a small giggle & I thought he was joking. But no he was serious.. dead serious.. Mann.. i was fumbling .. & to my already ‘happily pitiable condition’, he added another [drive munks crazy] line.. He now says.. “after you MC for me.. I want you to assist me on the stage & also to do my after set” .. I wouldn’t lie but I could feel my heart stop for a bit n can swear I saw an angel. All this not because I was star studded.. but because for a new comer like me a chance to even be there next to one of the biggest Bhangra producers of current times was quite a thing in itself.. But this man decided to put his trust in someone who just met a few minutes back & give him a chance to do what he aspires to do..

Well the next one hour I spent on stage with the master DJ.. I MC for him throughout and also did DJ for him for his after set. I am extremely grateful to you Zeus.. Thanks a ton a million times for your trust n faith. You rock like no one else does.. & every one in the audience can verify to that.. !!

<—-RDB n Me

While I was still at here, Raghav took the grand walk in.. Well I dint really see him, but I could guess it was him with all the girls yelling.. lol.. I was just about 5 songs in Zeus’s afterset and I had Raghav’s assistant in behind me. I set up his music and bang at 12 Raghav took the walk in from the back straight through the crowd onto the stage. For a moment I could not even hear the blaring music on the speakers with the ladies cheering for him. His performance was stunning.. Interactive with the audience and truly top notch. He sang around 10-12 of his top hits. I was playing his supporting music in the back. He also had a team of supporting rappers which made the crowd swing like crazy. I would say.. just look at the pictures..

DJ Fricktion of Defjam Uk was in and waiting to spin the turntables with his latest mixtape out. He is no doubt but one of the best RnB Dj’s around at the moment. He was all set while Raghav did his last song. His set from start to end just kept the audience flowing. This dude is loaded with talent.. He is really good with the turntables and definitely should be checked out on his myspace.
I had a quick kind word with Raghav in the green room while fricktion was on. He really has some huge style. A fantastic person. He waited back & let loads of fans [mostly girls..lol] come in & take pictures with him. Too good…

Next walking in was the lord of authentic Punjabi music. Surge of RDB ready to drop the crowd crazy on the dancefloor. Trust me.. I dint see a single person sitting down during his set. One hour of pure crazy Bhangra… everyone just loves him.. & he is such a fine person. So easy to talk to and simply the best.. Had a fun time chatting with him.. I was taking his pictures and he was taking mine.. haha.. Always be the fine person you are Surge.. n keep the music rolling always.

Time just passed.. wished that night didn’t end.. What a fab evening.. in every way.. It’s rare that you are working but it’s soo much fun that you wanna work more n more if that is what is required. A fantastic audience and a super performance packed evening.

Check out all the pictures below.. Many more photos available. If you dont see yourself there.. drop me a like in the comments section & i’ll send them to you. Check out www.vibrasians.com for many more photos of the Asian Ball..

Videos of the event coming very shortly. Keep it tuned to this space. Subscribe to my blog by clicking on the “File cast RSS feeds” on the left side.

If you missed the Ball.. you sure missed a lot.. hell of a lot.. but no worries.. Look forward to it next year..
Cheers..
