PANJABI MC & MuNkS LIVE IN CARDIFF

The pioneer .. the guru.. the idol… the big LORD of Bhangra standing right next to me
<——- THE GREeeeaaaAT PANJABI MC

came to town.. & I can’t express what an honor it was… The big boy who’s Mundaiyan toh Bach Ke track is still played in every big event in all music genres .. all over the world.. Winner of numerous awards all over the world including the MOBO, MTV & World Music awards. The best Dance track, the artist of the year and a zillion other awards.. This man is enigmatic n a total iconic figure .. [to me atleast.. n to most Asian music DJ's and inspiring Producer's like me]

The evening started around 9:30 for me when i got into the club with Imran & we started setting up the sound for the DJ’s and also for the live performance we had lined up. A few complications kept us busy with certain normal things not working and a few messed up controls on the clubs system. In short the sound system was quiet F”^%ed up.. It scared the gods out of me thinking that we wont be able to mix on this & what would PMC do to get it all going.. but i forgot the simple fact that am dealing with a professional here..

After the guys came in and we finished the sound check, I got the music rolling with some new Bollywood and Bhangra tunes. In no time the club went from empty to jam packed, with more n more coming in. We decided to bring our super live performers for the day on to the stage. Hassan from the Pakistani rock band “eP“, Ankush from an Indian rock band “Saints” and our singer for the day Aizaz all dawned on to the stage with everyone lining up in the front to catch the action up & close.
To top it up, I joined in with some live tabla jamming with the guys to revive a few good old classics like Mere sapno ki rani, chura liya hai, etc. sung by Aizaz & ME on tablas with Hassan on guitars. Frankly it did sound a little week cause the sound system dint quiet take a live performance well and there were many feedbacks and we couldn’t increase the levels. Moreover with so many people in there to cheer us.. the sound quiet got lost in there. But an excellent performance by the boys. Truly speaking, we just practiced for about 3 hours on the night before we actually went on the stage. Cheers to you guys.. loved jammin with you all.

We dint need to carry on long and just did about 4-5 songs when I was told that PMC was here and was quiet restless to come down and play. I have rarely heard of any performer who wants to come down straight in and perform as soon as he arrives. Guess that’s what makes this man the best. He took over the mic the moment in walked in the DJ box and the crowd roar was deafening. He too faced problems with the sound system but got that out of the way in no time. He started off with a few of his new tunes & not so popular ones which kind of pissed the audience. And since they were in a live performance before he came in, he had the most difficult task of getting everyone movin.. He pushed quiet a bit on th mic tryin to get everyone to make some noise but dint quiet work.

That’s when the real PMC came into business. A man who just doesn’t know his music but also knows how to read the crowd. 3-4 songs later there was literally no one sitting and truly no empty spot in the club. The man rocked the place out of their breath. But Cardiff doesn’t stop that easy.. The crowd asked for more and he played more & more & more.. I stood by him all the way helping him out with the messed up systems.. An hour later Imran asked him if the other DJ’s should take over so that he can chill but he just said ” I wanna go on.” :) the man is unstoppable!

ESA n Show DJ’s from Bristol took over and lined up some RnB and popular Bhangra to change the feel of the evening.. They played quiet a wicked set like they always do.. I chilled with PMC while they moved the crowd.. The man is not just a great Producer but also a wicked person. It was fun chatting up with him and discussing loads of things..
& after the inspirational talk, it was all up to me to get the evening through.. DJ MUNKS in the house.. lol.. well when that happens… it’s all upto the music that my audience wants.. that’s what I am about.. I play whatever “you” want. The night just went all the way till early mornin with some wicked Bollywood and Bhangra goin non-stop till the wee hours.. I played all the big ones, special ones and all the requests that came my way… The satisfaction & kick that I get when I see everyone rocking to my tunes, is better than any high I can ever imagine. A big thank you to all those who came up and thanked me and complimented. It’s all for you guys..

Look out for many more events coming your way with Vibrasians.com … Big up Imrann.. !!

Keep it tuned to munks.cyn.in

“MY MEDIA PROFILE“

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Born & brought up in Mumbai – India, moved to Delhi a few years back. I have been musically inclined ever since I can remember. I trained in classical Tabla playing & then later took on playing other percussions like Dhol, Kacchi, Dholak, Bongos etc. out of simple & plain love for percussions.

I did my Bachelors in Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering [Mumbai University, India] while trying my hand at All India Radio as a guest speaker, recordist & editor. I also worked for Channel [V] TV music channel as a junior show co-ordinator for a few months. I was then influenced by the club culture & took up PR for an event organising group called Awakening & later took off a little into DJ’ing while chilling with the likes of DJ Nasha, Suketu, Russel & Freeze. I went further down into it later when my family moved to Delhi with DJ Gaurav Malvai of Delhi with his sound hire & event management companies Nightlife & Global Sound Management when I used to come to Delhi in breaks from my Engineering. I did the music for loads of weddings around Delhi as
a DJ and sound engineer & also helped manage many events there. At the same time I did DJ, compared & organised a number of college feasts back in Mumbai as being the Joint Cultural Secretary of my college. I even played with a Fusion band & won a number of prizes at inter college group fusion competitions while studying at St. Xaviers College in Mumbai [India] before Engineering.

I am currently doing my MSc. in Music Engineering & Production at Glamorgan University in South Wales [UK]. I started & run a society called SAMS [South Asian Music Society] at the students union & organise many events promoting Asian music. I also DJ for most of these nights. A few of my events were funded by the university for the cultural integration my events bring to the student community. I help organise and perform for Vibrasians.com at many celebrity music nights including the massive Cardiff Asian Ball where I not only hosted the evening and managed the stage but also performed with the likes of Dr. Zeus, Raghav, RDB & DJ Fricktion. I was also asked by Dr. Zeus to do an impromptu MC for his performance. I also recently did the after party for DJ H [Ishq Brandy fame] and will be performing with the likes of Panjabi MC and DJ Raheem [Kiss FM] in the forthcoming events.

I also sound engineer for local radio station called GTFM & record many bands at the University studios where I recently recorded the massive 30 musicians Wonderbrass band. I have also professionally produced and recorded bands like Ki Rose, Soundstorm, My Ceramic Rabbit, etc. I have also done on location shoots for Channel 4 and will be working on short movies for ITV Wales.
I am currently working on a number of projects alongside pursuing my masters including few of my own remixes and productions, organising massive Asian events in Cardiff and also organising charity music events for Oxfam to generate money to eradicate poverty.

DESI JAM WITH DJ H & MUNKS..

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

<— with DJ H

After the massive success of the CARDIFF ASIAN BALL’07 in Feb came the phenomenal DESI JAM with DJ H on Tuesday the 6th MARCH’07 at club MONCHINOS in Cardiff .

DJ H is of the RDB crew on the know Untouchables Record label with the super hit “Ishq Brandy” from his album called “The Debut“. A scotching number that blazes fire on the floor every time it’s played by any DJ in any part of the world. It’s a massive hit on the Bhangra scene world over. He is currently working on his forthcoming album called “Re-loaded” which I am really looking forward to.

When he came to town on the 6th March, we knew it’s going to get hot in Cardiff. With support acts by ME and ESA & Show, this was going to be a blazing night… & that it was. Frankly, it wasn’t very busy as I can imagine people were still recovering from the endless fun at the Cardiff Asian Ball but still no excuse for all those who did make it there cause they no doubt did have a blast.

We started the night off around 10 with me hitting a few popular Bhangra numbers while the crowd came in and filled the massive Monchinos. A little later around 11:30 ESA & Show took over with some rocking RnB to touch everyone’s tastes while we wait for the special Bhangra DJ to hit Cardiff. Imran was a little sick that day so I took over the door for him while he sit back and rest for some time and enjoy the music. :)

DJ H took over the console and totally over the dance floor around 12ish and then there was no stopping Cardiff. The dance floor ramped up within minutes and stayed that way till the night was alive. DJ H played the top Bhangra hits non-stop till about 2. I remember I actually went up to him and told him “dude it seems like you are playing the best off Bhangra.. You aint gonna leave anything for the rest of the DJ’s to play..lol”. We both laughed. The crowd actually had no breather while this London boy was up on the control.

Then he finally came out with his classic “Ishq Brandy” in his unique style while his MC pumped up the crowd higher. It looked like everyone was fresh on the floor with no sign of being tired. A new energy wave…

After his set was done, ESA took over again for a bit for a few  RnB beats to slow down the crowd and give them a breather. I love it the way these boys blend RnB with Bhangra when bringing it on. And then finally we felt the crowd needed some crazy Bollywood to come on.. So what better than that I start it off with Kajra-re.. lol.. just went on all the way.. I pumped up the tempo on the already moving crowd with some crazy Bolly remixes all the way till the end of the night. It wasn’t difficult for me to keep it all rolling as everyone was already high on DJ H’s and ESA’s music and I just had to take it way over on the top end..
The night would’nt have ended if the club had not decided to pull it off at about 3:30 cause the crowd just asking for more and more.. Check out your pics down here if you were there.. else for all you others.. check out what you missed… !!! :P

Dont miss all the action we bring together.. coming next on the 7th June.. at Iota in Cardiff with the Punjabi king… Panjabi MC & ME… gonna be a wicked night.. see you all there..
